Showcase: Data Migration from Ramco to AMOS
About Malaysian Airlines
Malaysia Airlines is the flag carrier of Malaysia. It operates a fleet of 81 aircraft and flies to more than 60 destinations worldwide. Malaysia Airlines operates an own Engineering & Maintenance division, primarily responsible for maintenance on Malaysia Airlines fleet as well as 3rd parties.
Challenges
In 2018 implementation of a new fully integrated MRO software system (AMOS).
A complex legacy system landscape consisting of the RAMCO Aviation Suite, in-house build engineering databases and disparate excel sheets.
Requirement to align data to best-practice industry standards for airworthiness and maintenance data
Solution
Migration of the Malaysian Airlines fleet from the legacy infrastructure to AMOS by using TITAN ETL (now NEXUS) and EXSYN expertise without risking accuracy and integrity of overall aircraft airworthiness data within the strict project timelines.
EXSYN performed the following:
Workshop with business users to perform full data mapping between current system landscape and to-be MRO software and business processes
Activation of the TITAN ETL (now NEXUS) infrastructure, including required plugins
Baseline data load to gauge state-of-play of all data
Iterative process for scripting of required Extraction-Transformation-Loading scripts
Automated verification in TITAN to ensure data integrity and quality
Creation of required output formats/routines based on new MRO software system
5 full data loads, including end-user verification according defined verification templates from EXSYN
Final User Acceptance and Sign-off
Cut-over
Loading of historic data post go-live which is not deemed required for cut-over
Post go live support
Benefits
Higher Performance and Productivity
EXSYN’s data migration tool TITAN can handle large data volume from multiple sources and guarantee a repetitive process providing enhanced performance with almost 60 percent reduction in Average Handling Time.
Detailed data dashboard per aircraft
To support a streamlined cut-over of the fleet a detailed dashboard was used. Showing the detailed data-status per aircraft allowing for targeted action on data corrections
Automated Data Validation Checks
Build-in automated aircraft data validation checks significantly reduced the required verification effort by key-users. Ultimately propelling data quality to higher standards
Time and Cost Savings
Based on proven framework and years of experience timely and controlled data migration process and eventually go-live of the new MRO software system (AMOS).
“EXSYN’s expertise and support throughout the whole data migration project has been an important enabler in the successful transition to AMOS and the overall data & system transformation of MAB’s Maintenance & Engineering Division.” Christopher Vrydag, Overall Project Manager AMOS Program
